Volunteering with the BHS

If you are passionate about equestrian access and want to make a lasting difference in your area, this could be the volunteer opportunity for you.

The Chairperson of a committee has a major influence on the way that a local team/committee works together.

Becoming a Vice Chairperson is ideal for those with an aspiration to become a Chairperson in the future.  They can be mentored by a current Chairperson for whom they will also support and deputise for where necessary.

In many cases Secretaries (Administrators) are the heart of a local committee. They help the committee to stay connected and informed between meetings, they take and share the minutes and action points of the meetings and introduce new members to the team.

This role is vital to making sure that local committee activities and events are promoted, supported and recognised.

2026 research can be a really flexible activity which can be done as and when you have the time and energy.

Our Treasurers come from all sorts of backgrounds, from family budgeting to managing the books for a yard to high finance.

If you don't want to jump straight into a specific role, a local team (committee member) might be a great place to start.

Occasional volunteers usually support local BHS events and activities in their area.

Our Education and Events Officers are an important element of the local team/committee and will be involved in designing, organising and holding fun, interesting and educational events locally.

As a Volunteer Equestrian Safety Adviser you will work with your local committee to put on awareness raising events and incorporate safety messages into local communications and events.

Welfare Advisers help to prevent welfare cases through advice, support and education, building up relationships with their local equestrians so people feel comfortable asking for support when they need it.

Our BHS Friends at the End volunteers offer support and assistance to horse owners or carers facing the loss of their equine companion.
